Teacher Dare Day Question: Why did you choose special education as opposed to general ed? — thelonestarteacher

Good question.

I initially wanted general ed, specifically middle school/high school social studies.

But then I got a job as an assistant in a special ed classroom and fell in love with it.

I’m dually certified. K-12 Special Ed and K-9 General Ed with a social science endorsement.  I could teach gen ed, but I prefer special ed.

To add a bit more, I used to think that I wanted to teach resource, because a self contained classroom scared me. But, after teaching in self contained I fell in love and keeping looking for those types of positions.
